At LiftedViz, the primary goal of our internship program is to support as many people as we can to build a successful career in tech. Like everything we do, our focus is on building a solid foundation, and we hope to accomplish this with our data viz interns through both training and hands-on experience. Over the next year, we can't wait to grow with our first cohort of interns as they work on real data visualization projects for clients, acquire a skill set that is in high demand, and get paid to do it. Welcome to the team Alexander, Gordon, Glen, and Ethan, and thank you for choosing to be part of the LiftedViz community!
Alexander Bates; Data Viz, Community Events, Social Media
Alexander Bates is 22 years old and graduated with a B.A. in Public Health Studies from Johns Hopkins University. He developed an interest in data analysis during a policy analyst internship where he explored hearing loss coverage policies; a research topic inspired by his own profound hearing loss acquired at birth. Raised in the SF Bay Area, Alexander is an avid fan of outdoor activities, spanning from the snowy mountains of Lake Tahoe to the warm, sandy beaches of SoCal. When he’s not outside, he enjoys reading, programming, and listening to podcasts. Above all, he is excited to find a new home in Bellingham and a new community with LiftedViz.
Gordon Thomas; Data Viz, Blog, Website Content
Gordon Thomas is a Washington local and a graduate of Western Washington University. His love of math and philosophy culminated in an Economics degree that left him with a healthy fear of monetary policy and his first encounter with data analytics. While it has always been the dream to pursue a career in tech, finding something that also provided an outlet for creativity seemed ambitious until an opportunity arose at a new company built at the crossroads of data analysis and design, LiftedViz. Outside of the office, Gordon is a doting father to a domestic shorthair tabby and when he’s not protecting houseplants from being eaten, he can be found hitting the links.
Glen Hughes; Data Viz, Website Analytics, SEO
Glen Hughes is 23 years old and recently graduated with a B.A. in Management Information Systems (MIS) from Western Washington University. His current focus is on data visualization and software engineering. In his free time he produces music, rock climbs, and plays chess. He really enjoys software development, designing visually-pleasing work, and improving business functions with the help of technology, so the opportunity to join LiftedViz was a no brainer for him. He gets to do what he enjoys, continually learn new skills, and be a part of an awesome community.
Ethan Norgard; Data Viz, Video Production, Branding
Ethan Norgard was born and raised in Bellingham and recently graduated from Western Washington University with a B.A. in Management Information Systems (MIS) and a minor in Design Studies. Other notable accomplishments include an associate certificate in Graphic Design from British Columbia Institute of Technology and being a licensed property and casualty insurance broker. His passion for good design and technology has driven him into the data visualization world. When Ethan is not working, you can find him outside, whether it’s skiing at Mt. Baker or climbing in Leavenworth. At LiftedViz, Ethan hopes to become well-versed in data and learn the ins and outs of a startup.
